Welcome to Primary 2D Class Bulletin Blog. I am Mrs Riz, Form Teacher
of Primary 2D. I started teaching lower primary in 2005 and I had been to many
other schools conducting creative writing workshops and study camps years before
I took up teaching professionally. I will be teaching your child English, Math,
Music, Art, FTGP & PAL. My responsibility as
an educator is not only to equip my students with knowledge but also to let them
have the experience and develop true life skills and moral values. Every child
is unique in his or her own way and he or she can be nurtured holistically. I
believe given the right directions, our children can fully develop their
potentials.
Names or Photos of our Star Pupils of the Month will be published here for recognition

::Our Rainbow Day::
Thursday, August 5, 2010
Specially for my dear primary 1D and 1E pupils...here are the long awaited videos of our rainbow day dance! Sorry that i have to take this long to actually upload the videos successfully. They were huge video files initially and i have to approach Ms Aida to help me compress the video files. Thanks alot Ms Aida for your kind assistance. Anyway children,looking at the videos again...i must say, the performances were AWESOME!...
Ms Sakinah and I will definitely miss our dance practices together...hope there will be another day where we get to collaborate again! Initially, we thought it would be quite a challenge to put both classes together but you all proved us wrong. I believe we cooperated very well and besides that we strengthened the friendship that we have created along the way! (That's a bonus!)
I hope you all have learnt that rainbow day is not only about showcasing talents, celebrating the joy and being a performer but it is also a celebration of friendship and team spirit! I enjoy working with Ms Sakinah and I hope she will bring this learning experience throughout her whole teaching career...!
Anyway, enjoy viewing these videos...

::Show and Tell::
Sunday, April 11, 2010
Hello everyone,
Just to update, my pupils of 1D will be doing show and tell for these 2 terms. So far, Ray Lim had started the ball rolling doing the show and tell last Thursday. We will have Styron, Camillus as well as Shu Shuang this coming Tuesday to show us and tell a bit about their favourite things. Show and tell will act as a platform for pupils to portray their abilities to talk infront of their classmates(audience) and even boost their confidence. So far, my pupils welcome this idea and are looking forward to their turn. Pupils were told a week before hand to prepare for their show and tell and they have been taught on what they could talk about and what things are allowed to be brought to class for this fun activity. Some would love to show their pets but unfortunately, pets are not allowed in school. Thus the best way would be to show photos of their pets. Pupils with great IT skills are encouraged to do show and tell using power point too!
Will post some great ideas on show and tell on the next update!
Cheers, Mrs Riz

::CNY Pictures, Best Group of the Month and Star Pupils of the Month::
Sunday, February 28, 2010
Hello everyone, just like to update on some pictures that I managed to snap before my camera battery went 'dead'. We had great fun celebrating Chinese New Year as well as Total Defence this year and my pupils wore their traditional costumes. Of course, they looked really good and cute in their own costumes. Our dear classmate, Lex Lee even won the best dressed competition! So do enjoy the pictures!
January Star Pupils Awards were given to Pei Fang and Yu Jie. They were choosen because of their constantly producing very neat work and always putting on their best behaviour.

As for February Star Pupils, our class monitress, Joy won the award together with Ryan. Both were helpful pupils, very diligent, and always show respect towards their friends and teachers.

January Best Groups Awards went to the Yellow Carebears as well as the Brown Carebears. As for February, Yellow Carebears maintained their throne to be the best group of the month. Green Carebears came in 2nd and were awarded with certificates and gifts as a motivation to keep doing better as a group.

::STELLAR::
Saturday, January 23, 2010
(Singing to the tune of Are you sleeping, are you sleeping, Brother John)
Are you sleeping, are you sleeping, Farmer Dan, Farmer Dan? The animals are noisy, the animals are noisy. So I can't, so I can't.
Can you sleep now, can you sleep now, Farmer Dan, Farmer Dan? The animals are quiet, the animals are quiet. Now I can, now I can.
Do ask the pupils of 1D and I'm sure they could sing and dance to this song very well...Singing is part of our STELLAR tuning in before I introduced the big book reading activity. Singing can get them to settle so that they know they will be ready for a new activity to start.
So far in class we have read 2 big books, 'The Farm Concert' and 'Mrs Wishy Washy',both from the author, Joy Cowley. I would get pupils to focus on the visuals,pictures or prints before they start to understand the text. Thus, alot of understanding the expressions from characters' faces and making prediction from the prints are my major teaching points to them. Pupils are more willing to describe pictures without the fear of being wrong for their answers as I do not target words as yet in my first reading. I love active participation from them and welcome questions pertaining to the book.
From their positive reactions, many of them could follow through the story and those who could not read well, from prints, they learnt to make connections to the words. These pupils would listen to the sounds and after that able to figure out the words and eventually the sentences. I myself as a teacher love STELLAR and I hope this programme will instill love and interest for books in our children.
I have the powerpoint slides for Parents to view and understand further about STELLAR. I have also included tips on how you as parents can help your child at home as I am pretty sure many of us will be worried that for English, we forgo the textbooks.
::Cows 'can' and 'can't'::
Tuesday, January 19, 2010
We had a grammar lesson on using 'can' and 'can't' based on the big book, 'The Farm Concert'. After doing the learning sheet, I decided to infuse some Art and English Grammar together. Hence, I extended the lesson by getting my pupils to form sentences using 'can' and 'can't'. I believe that by doing so, I could instill fun as well as to assess my pupils' understanding on the grammar lesson taught.
Pupils were able to respond well with simple sentences on what they can and cannot do which to me is really a great progress. Soon after, i showed them a template of a cow and i prompted them to brainstorm on what they think cows can and can't do. I guess we somehow learnt abit about living things and the limitations or the animals' abilities to perform certain tasks as compared to humans. Pupils came out with funny facts for sure but of course, they used the words 'can' and 'can't' appropriately in describing the cow.
(And YES...we know alot of verbs too from this lesson...i called this accidental learning!)
Here are some of the fabulous pieces of work done by my pupils and I am so proud of them for taking the effort to create a fantastic work.
I have more...since everyone did so well, I will put up their work up in the class!
